東北地震募金集めのためにカリフォルニアの高校生たちがベイクセールを行いました！Bake sale for Japan earthquake by CA High school students!

私、Junkoは現在、アメリカ、サンフランシスコ近郊の町に住んでいます。小学５年生から短大を卒業するまで仙台で育ちました。そのため私の大切な故郷の悲しい出来事に胸を痛める日々です。

My name is Junko, lives in the suburbs of San Francisco, USA. I grew up in Sendai, Japan from 5th grade to college. My heart has been aching for the people in my hometown.

どうしても何かをすぐに始めたいと思い、まず、娘たちの通ってるハイスクールの日本語の先生に、義援金集めのためのベイクセール（手作りのケーキやクッキーを売る）を提案しました。先生は快く引き受けて下さって、授業を返上してポスター作りや準備を開始。地震発生から一週間後の３月１８日、放課後を利用してベイクセールを行いました。

I wanted to start something for them immediately then I asked the Japanese teacher in my daughters' high school to have a bake sale. He was please to take over this idea and asked his students to prepare this event.

こちらは生徒たちが作ったポスター。This is a poster the students made:

日本が立ち直れるように助けよう！

全ての寄付と売り上げは赤十字に寄付されます。

ベイクセールはたったの一時間半だけでしたが、たくさんの生徒たち、父兄たちが足を止め、寄付をしてくれました。よく見て下さい、クッキーの飾りが日本の国旗になってるの、わかりますか？この日本語のクラスの生徒たちは日本が大好きなんです！オタクな子もたくさんいます！

Even though the bake sale was only 90 min. after school, many students and their parents stopped by and bought the baked goods. Look at the photo carefully, somebody made cookies with white frosting and red circle..... Yes, that was a Japanese flag! The students from the Japanese class love Japan so much! (some of them are OTAKU:)

一つ一つはたったの２５セント（２０円）から１ドル（８０円）ですが、たくさんの方達がその金額以上に寄付して下さいました。そして一時間半後の成果は。。。。。８００ドル！（６万４千円！）

 Those baked goods were only 25 cents to $1each but the most of them donated more than the price.  Then our final count after the 90 min. Bake sale was.....more than $800!!!

この二人は当日他の生徒さんたちとともにベークセールを手伝ってくれた私の娘たちです。

These are my two daughters who helped the bake sale with another students.

ベークセールが終わって私が片付けを手伝っていたとき、駐車場で私の車の隣に止まってるトラックに乗ったおじさんと目が合いました。私が残り物のケーキを見せて、

「召し上がりませんか？」と聞くと、(売るつもりはありませんでしたが。。。）

「何のために売ってるの？」と聞いてきました。

私が、「日本の地震と津波の被害にあった方達のためです」と言うと、

「僕が今持ってるお金、全部あげるよ。ニュースを見てて、とても心が痛んでるんだ。早く皆さんが元気になることを願ってるよ。。。」

そして彼はお財布の中、そしてジーンズのポケットから２０ドル札を何枚か取り出し私に渡して、ハグをしてきました。その優しさに思わず泣いてしまった私です。彼は決して裕福そうに見える様な方ではありませんでした。見てみると、＄８０ドルもありました。

I was helping to clean after the sale, I just found there is a man who was in a truck right next to my car. I talked to him to show some leftover baked goods, "Would you like some?" （I didn't mean to sale them...) He asked me "what is this for?" I explained him what this was for, then he said "I would love to donate all of my money I have now! It has been heartbreaking to watch the news!" He searched his jeans pockets and wallet and gave me some $20 bills and a BIG hug. It made me cry. Even he didn't look like he was wealthy, he donated $80!!!

この思い、被災者の方達に届いて、皆さんの生活、心に早く平安が訪れますように祈ってます。もっとたくさんの義援金集めをやっているので、またこのブログで紹介させていただきます。

I hope people who are suffering in Tohoku feel our love. We pray for peace in your life and hearts. I will post more events we have been having here in Northern California soon on this blog.
